Should any of the champions in Europe’s Top 5 leagues have a harder time defending their crown, it will be AC Milan. Even though they maintained their place in the ‘top four’ throughout the season, they surprised most of the football in the 2021/22 season by winning their first league title since 2011.
The final results from recent history and the price tag of their squad did not put AC Milan as one of the pre-tournament favorites to win the 2021/22 Italian Serie A season. It was a pleasant surprise to the AC Milan fans and the neutral fan to see the Scudetto get to another Italian club after Juventus’s 9-year dominance.
