When a relegation threatened and a champions hopeful meet, the result goes in on direction.  Villarreal scored three against Sporting Gijon to get an away victory that helps their fight with the teams at the top end of the league standings.

 

Atletico Madrid                       1-0               Las Palmas

After a humiliating defeat against Villarreal, Atletico Madrid had to fight hard to not drop more points. Saul Niguez goal ensured that Atletico Madrid remains among the top six teams in the league standings for at least a couple of rounds.

Two goals in the second half was how Real Sociedad took all three points from a struggling Granada side.  

The result was expected as Granada had only managed a victory after 15 attempts in the 2016/17 La Liga.

Starting the second half with four goals, it was evident the Sevilla was going to grab another home victory.   

With Real Madrid absence from this week’s league events, Sevilla needed this victory to increase the pressure on Madrid.

With a man down, newly-promoted Leganes was still able to hold on to a goal for the majority of the match and deny Eibar an away victory.

Regardless of the outcome, Osasuna was going to remain in the relegation zone, but a victory would have helped them climb from the bottom of the league table.

 

Deportivo La Coruna scored two goals against bottom table Osasuna.

Barcelona might have returned to their best form once again after this display. The home side scored three goals in the final 25 minutes of the match to kill any hope of Espanyol getting lucky with a point from this fixture.

Athletic Club opened a five-point gap between themselves and Celta Vigo after coming from behind to beat a 10-man Celta Vigo team with a late goal.

A penalty allowed Athletic Club to get an equalizing goal for Iago ASpas 54th minute goal that had placed Celta Vigo in the winning position.  They same penalty incident gave Athletic Club a numerical advantage after Celta Vigo’s defender Roncaglia as sent off for an accumulation of yellow cards.
