Levi’s Stadium SANTA CLARA. Group C
Uruguay 3-0 Jamaica
Abel Hernandez 21’
Je-Vaughn Watson 66’ (o.g)
Mathias Corujo 88’
Both teams were playing their final match of the Copa America Centenario and after a winless and pointless time in the competition, a win was important for these teams to bow out gracefully.
Uruguay were favorites to win, but they’ve been favorites in other matches in the competition and failed to win.
Jamaica has never won a Copa America match, and Uruguay history in the Copa America won’t allow their fans to accept a winless and pointless competition for the team.
After 90 minutes, Jamaica had successfully maintained a winless record in the Copa America.
Abel Hernandez opened the scoring for Uruguay in the 21st minute. A great attacking play to open up a stubborn Jamaican defense.
Jamaican defense held on for the remainder of the first half and almost half way into the second half before Jamaica’s defender Je-Vaughn Watson bobbled a cross into his net to double the score for Uruguay.
The final shot blow to Jamaica came late in the match when a long ball from the Uruguayan goalkeeper managed to go over almost the entire Jamaican team. Mathias Corujo took advantage of the opportunity and scored Uruguay’s third goal in the 88th minute.
Jamaica leaves the competition as the only team not to score a goal.
