Continental Cup football in Europe: We are heading to the quarter finals of the Champions League, Europa League, and the Conference League.

 

CHAMPIONS LEAGUE – Round of 16 – Second Leg

 

The Italian clubs held on in the second leg to advance to the quarter-finals. – AC Milan, Inter Milan, and Napoli.
Two of the English clubs made it through. – Manchester City and Chelsea.


AC Milan, Bayern Munich, Benfica, and Chelsea have booked their spot in the last 8 last week. Inter Milan, Manchester City, Napoli, and defending champions Real Madrid joined them to complete the final eight clubs of the 2022/23 UEFA Champions League.

Napoli [ 3-0 ] Frankfurt : 5-0 agg.
Real Madrid [ 1-0 ] Liverpool : 6-2 agg.

MARCH 14
Inter Milan got the job done in Porto by protecting a 1-0 first-leg lead to advance into the quarterfinals. FC Porto had their chances but it just wasn’t their day.

There was nothing separating Manchester City and RB Leipzig after the first leg but there were a lot (of goals) separating the two at the end of the second. Erling Haaland scored a first-half hattrick in his 5 goals that helped Manchester City to the quarterfinals with a 7-0 win over RB Leipzig

MARCH 15
Napoli and Real Madrid advanced to the quarterfinals by keeping a clean sheet and adding to their lead from the first leg.

Napoli was in Naples with a healthy 2-0 lead on Frankfurt, and they added 3 more goals in the second-leg to win comfortably. There was nothing about the season Napoli is having that makes this a surprise.

Real Madrid added a goal to their 3-goal advantage to eliminate Liverpool at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu.

Union Saint-Gilloise [ 3-0 ] Union Berlin : 6-3 agg.
Fenerbahçe [ 1-0 ] Sevilla : 1-2 agg.
Freiburg [ 0-2 ] Juventus : 0-3 agg.
Ferencváros [ 0-2 ] Bayer Leverkusen : 0-4 agg.
Arsenal [ 1-1 ] Sporting CP : 3-3 agg. | 3-5 pens
Real Betis [ 0-1 ] Manchester United : 1-5 agg.
Real Sociedad [ 0-0 ] Roma : 0-2 agg.
Feyenoord [ 7-1 ] Shakhtar Donetsk : 8-2 agg.

Juventus, Leverkusen, Manchester United, Roma, and Sevilla were the winners after the first leg of Europa League Round of 16. All four winners went away from home and got the result to advance.

Union Berlin and Union St. Gilloise sharing the points in a 3-3 draw in Berlin, but in Brussel, only Union St. Gilloise scored the three goals.

After a 2-2 draw in Lisbon, Sporting forced an extra-time in London to beat Arsenal through a penalty kickoff. Sporting CP won 5-3.

Feyenoord left no chance for Shakhtar Donetsk in the return leg. They scored 7 goals without a response to beat Shakhtar Dontestk 7-1 on aggregate.

Ferneerbahche, Freiburg, Frencvaros, Real Sociedad, and Real Betis couldn’t use home advantage to overturn a first-leg defeat.

Sivasspor [ 1-4 ] Fiorentina : 1-5 agg.
AZ Alkmaar [ 2-1 ] Lazio : 4-2 agg.
Djurgårdens IF [ 0-3 ] Lech Poznań : 0-5 agg.
Slovan Bratislava [ 2-2 ] Basel : 4-4 agg. | 1-4 pens

AZ Alkmaar, Fiorentina, Lech Poznan, Nice, and West Ham went on to advance after winning both legs of their Round of 16 tie.

Slovan Bratislava was seconds away from advancing with a 2-1 win before Basel found an equalizing goal through Zeki Amdouni in the 3rd minute of the final stoppage time. Basel went on to win through a penalty shootout.

Gent were comfortable winners in Turkey. Gift Orban scored a first-half hatrick to help Gent to a 4-0 lead at the break.
