When Lucas Ocampos scored from the penalty spot in the 82nd minute, it appeared that Sevilla was on its way to victory or, at the very least, had avoided a home loss. However, they conceded a goal in the 90th minute, resulting in a 3-2 defeat. Ruben Duarte, who entered the game in the 77th minute, scored the game-winning goal for Alaves. Sevilla has now lost three consecutive league games and has only one victory in its last 14 league matches.

Kirian Rodriguez scored a brace in Las Palmas’s 3-0 win against Villarreal. It was the first win for Las Palmas in four league games, while Villarreal suffered back-to-back league defeats.

Iago Aspas’ 10th-minute goal for Celta Vigo stood for 33 minutes before Cyle Larin equalized for Mallorca. The match ended in a 1-1 draw.

Athletic Club took a 2-goal lead into the break, with Alex Berenguer scoring both. It ended in a 2-1 Basque Derby win for Athletic Club against Real Sociedad. The gap in
points between the two widened to nine.

Isco scored the only goal of the game in the 76th minute to get Real Betis their first win in six league games. It was a victory at Granada’s expense, keeping Granada firmly in the relegation zone.

Anything but a defeat was going to put Girona at the top of the league table at the end of the weekend, and Girona ended up with the bare minimum to get at the top. Girona failed to take full advantage as they only picked up a point to move to the top of the La Liga standings while Real Madrid was away winning the Spanish Super Cup. Shockingly, Girona dropped two points to an Almeria side at the bottom of the league standings.

Three second half goals against Cadiz brough Valencia a third straight league win (4-1), since dropping point in a ‘1-1’ draw with Barcelona.

Almeria remains bottom of the table but was the only side in the relegation zone to pick up a point. Sevilla dropped a position to 17th after defeat in the opening match of the round against Alaves, as Celta Vigo moved up a position to 16th with a draw with Mallorca.
