Ligue 1- Round Five

September 16, 2016

Caen            0-6            Paris Saint-Germain

                                        Edinson Cavani 12’, 23’(pen), 38’, 45’+2

                                         Lucas Moura 67’

                                         Jean-Kevin Augustin 79’

This is more like what we expected from PSG in Ligue 1.

After failing to be clinical in front of goal against Arsenal in the UEFA Champions League on Tuesday, Edinson Cavani made up for it in this match by netting four goals before the break.

After a two Ligue 1 matches without a win, Paris Saint-Germain got back to their winning ways in style by thrashing Caen in an away match.

The win shoots PSG up to the top of the table, but their close competitors have a game in hand to put PSG back down.

Nancy           1-1               Nantes

Loic Puyo 72’                   Mariusz Stepinski 67’

It was a close match between two struggling sides. A draw was fitting. Both teams came into the match with a win and three losses after four matches.

Lorient                                  1-0               Lille

Benjamin Moukandjo 76’(pen)

A home win against Lille gave Lorient their first win of the season. Benjamin Moukandjo converted a penalty into a goal in the 76th minute to give Lorient a win on which they can build something from this season.

Bordeaux                    0-1        Angers

                                                    Karl Toko Ekambi 38’

Two wins in a row for Angers as they defeated Bordeaux in an away match. Karl Toko Ekambi’s first half goal was all Anger needed in this match.

Dijon                 0-0                 Metz

Two newly promoted teams met and finished their match in a goalless draw. Each side had a penalty to break the deadlock, but neither was able to convert.

It was a bigger loss for Metz, as they came into the match with a healthier position on the league table, and a better record, just to finish with a draw and a suspended player. Metz’s Cheick Doukoure was sent off after receiving a second yellow card in the 58th minute.

Toulouse                              2-1                     Guingamp

Three goals in about 12 minutes of the second half decided the match. Toulouse had to come from a goal down within at home against Guingamp. Despite playing with 10 men, Guingamp was first to get on the scoresheet.

Martin Braithwaite scored a penalty in the 63rd minute to cancel out the lead Jimmy Briand (also through a penalty) had given Guingamp about nine minutes earlier.  Jimmy Durmaz scored the winner not too long after.

Montpellier                    1-1                      Nice

Ryad Boudebouz 67’(pen)                       Younes Belhanda 85’

Nice maintain their undefeated start to the season and kept up pace with Monaco by coming from a goal down to salvage a point in an away match at Montpellier.

The draw leaves Nice two points behind the league leaders, Monaco.

In an evenly contested match, a late penalty gave Saint-Etienne a win over Bastia. Saint-Etienne could have had an early if Robert Beric had been able to convert a first-half penalty in the 7th minute.

Marseille                       0-0                        Lyon

It was a goalless draw when Marseille welcomed Lyon. Both teams could have used a win to boost their position in the league standing.
