UEFA WCQ : Europe
FIFA #1 ranked Belgium qualified with France on the same day. France will try to be the first reigning champions to defend their crown since Brazil in 1962.

Croatia booked their place at the expense of Russia.
An own goal in the 81st minute by Fero Kudryashov denied Russia the point needed to qualify.

Serbia booked their place at the expense of Portugal.
Portugal lost their advantage at home while Russia shot themselves in the foot in Croatia.
Aleksandar Mitrovic scored in the 90th minute to complete the comeback for Serbia.

Russia and Portugal went into the final round of their group game needing a draw or better to secure qualification for the 2022 World Cup. Both teams ended up settling for the playoff round after conceding a late goal.

England breezed through San Marino to get the point to qualify.
Harry Kane scored 40% of England’s goals as they thrashed San Marino 10-0 in search of a point.

Netherlands qualification was postponed after they blew a 2-goal lead against Montenegro in the final 10 minutes, but they scored two goals in the final 10 minutes to get qualification against Norway.

Sweden needed more than a draw to deny Spain qualification.
Alvaro Morata came off the bench in the second half and made it more difficult for the Swedes when he scored the game’s only goal in the 86th minute to give Spain a 1-0 victory.

The Swiss advanced at the expense of the Italians.
Italy needed to win in Northern Ireland by an equal or bigger margin of victory than what Switzerland could do at home against Hungary.
4 goals in the second half gave Switzerland the direct qualification from Group C.
