UEFA Europa League group stage – Round 1
Some shocking results and some expected results were received at the end of the opening day of the 2016/17 UEFA Europa League.
Manchester United losing to Feyenoord would might come as a shocker, but if you consider that Feyenoord are on top of the Dutch Eredivisie table and are undefeated in 5 matches, it isn’t that much of a shocker to defeat any team at their home stadium. But with Manchester United being the more expensive team amongst the two, there was the expectation for United to win this one.
Perhaps the biggest shocker was Inter Milan falling at home to Hapoel Beer Sheva by 2-0. As bad as they’ve been in recent seasons, Inter Milan is still regarded as one of the best teams in Italy. The investments they made over the summer was expected to get them over teams like Hapoel Beer Sheva at the San Siro.
