CSKA Moscow                              1-1                  Bayer Leverkusen

Bebras Natcho 78(pen)                                       Kevin Volland 16’

A point was enough to see Bayer Leverkusen in the next round of the UEFA Champions League.

Dinamo Zagreb                              0-1                 Lyon

                                                                               Alexandre Lacazette 72’

Lacazette’s second half goal for Lyon has given the team a good shot of advancing to the second round of the UCL. A healthy home win over Sevilla should send them there.

Sevilla                                              1-3               Juventus

Nicolas Pareja 9’                                                 Claudio Marchisio 45’+2’(pen)

                                                                               Leonardo Bonucci 84’

                                                                               Mario Mandzukic 90’+4’

A victory for Sevilla would have guaranteed that they finished as group leaders in Group H, but Juventus had other plans.

The home defeat leaves Sevilla in a position where they can’t afford defeat in their final group stage match against  Lyon.

Leicester City                                2-1                   Club Brugge

Shinji Okazaki 5’                                                   Jose Izquierdo 52’

Riyad Mahrez 30’(pen)

It took five matches for Leicester City conceded their first goal in the Champions League. Leicester City finished the match with a home win over Club Brugge and will finish on top of Group G of 2016/17 UCL.

The results handed Club Brugge their fifth consecutive defeat in the champions league. One more match remains for the team to try and exit the competition with at least a point.

Copenhagen                                  0-0                 Porto

With the winless Club Brugge as their next UCL fixture, Copenhagen gave themselves a chance by holding Porto to a goalless draw at home.

A victory for Copenhagen and a victory for Leicester City against Porto would be the results Copenhagen would be hoping for in the final round of the UCL group stage.

Monaco                                            2-1                Tottenham Hotspur

Djibril Sidibe 48’                                                   Harry Kane 52’

Thomas Lemar 53’

Defeat in Monaco eliminated Tottenham Hotspur from the 2016/17 UEFA Champions League.

A penalty allowed Harry Kane to score an equalizer for Tottenham after just four minutes after going a goal down.

Thomas Lemar scored a faster equalizer for Monaco in just under a minute.

Sporting CP                                       1-2                  Real Madrid

Adrien Silva 80’(pen)                                              Raphael Varane 29’

                                                                                   Karim Benzema 87’

After losing their lead late in the match, Karim Benzema scored late to regain the lead for Real Madrid.

There was very little doubt that Real Madrid would be leaving Lisbon without a point.

Borussia Dortmund                          8-4                 Legia Warsaw

Shinji Kagawa 17’ 18’                                            Aleksandar Prijovic 10’ 24’

Nuri Sahin 20’                                                          Michal Kucharczyk 57’

Ousmane Dembele 29’                                          Nemanja Nikolic 83’

Marco Reus 32’ 52’ 90’+3’

Felix Passlack 81’

It was a goal fest!

Marco Reus scores a hattrick in the highest scoring match in the UEFA Champions League history.

It was a twelve goal thriller when Borussia Dortmund welcomed Legia Warsaw.  The first 30 minutes of the match gave us an indication as to how  big the final result was going to look. Half of the goals scored in this fixture was scored in the first 30 minutes.

November 23. 2016

Rostov                                             3-2              Bayern Munich

Serdar Azmoun 44’                                         Douglas Costa 35’

Dmitry Poloz 50’(pen)                                     Juan Bernat 52’

Christian Noboa 67’

Rostov first win of the 2016/17 UCL came against an unlikely opposition.

A cold night in Rostov saw Bayern Munich suffer defeat after Christian Noboa’s second half freekick gave Rostov a victory over Bayern Munich.

Bayern Munich’s defeat meant that Atletico Madrid would finish as Group D leaders.

Besiktas                                          3-3               Benfica

Cent Tosun 58’                                                    Goncalo Guedes 10’

Ricardo Quaresma 83’(pen)                              Nelsinho 25

Vincent Aboubaker 89’                                        Ljubomir Fejsa 31’

If you can do it in one half, they can also do it in another.

Benfica blew a three goal lead and a chance to top Group B to settle for a point away at Besiktas.

With Benfica and Napoli facing each other in the final round of the group stage, Besiktas is in a great situation is they can find a victory over a winless Dynamo Kyiv.

Arsenal                                               2-2                   Paris Saint-Germain

Olivier Giroud 45’+1’                                                Edinson Cavani 18’

Marco Verratti 60’(o.g)                                              Alex Iwobi 77(o.g)

It was another match that a clinical Edinson Cavani could have won the match for Paris Saint-Germain.

The teams were already into the next stage of the competition, own-goals from both teams end the match in a draw.

Ludogorets Razgrad                           0-0                Basel

The two bottom teams in Group A played out a goalless draw.  With their final opposition being the two top sides in the group, it is difficult to imagine Ludogorets Razgrad and Basel finishing the group stage with a win.

Napoli                                                 0-0                  Dynamo Kyiv

Napoli was held to a goalless  draw at home.

Celtic                                               0-2                      Barcelona

                                                                                    Lionel Messi 24’ 56’(pen)

Lionel Messi returns to give Barcelona a win that ensures a top of the group finish in Group C.

Borussia Monchengladbach                 1-1               Manchester City

Raffael 23’                                                                      David Silva 45’+1’

Monchengladbach killed any hope of Manchester City finishing on top of Group C by holding them to a ‘1-1’ draw.

Atlético Madrid                                     2-0                          PSV Eindhoven

Kevin Gameiro 55’

Antoine Griezmann 66’

Two second half goals + Bayern Munich falling at Rostov = Top of Group D finish for Atletico Madrid.
