Germany and Spain clashed in the 2008 final, with Spain coming out on top. France and Portugal met in the 2016 final, where Portugal emerged victorious. Fast forward to the 2024 Euro quarterfinals, and these four teams squared off once again. Echoing the result from 2008, Spain triumphed over Germany. However, in a reversal of the 2016 final, it was France that edged out Portugal.

The host nation is out. Germany is out.
In a gripping clash that required extra time to separate the sides, Spain emerged victorious against Germany to secure their place in the semifinals. Dani Olmo sparked the contest into life, netting for Spain in the 51st minute after a clever assist from Lamine Yamal.
As the clock wound down, it seemed Spain would clinch the win in regulation time. However, Germany’s Florian Wirtz, introduced at half-time, had other ideas. His dramatic equalizer in the 89th minute sent the match into extra time.
With the game seemingly destined for a penalty shootout, Mikel Merino, who had been brought on in the 80th minute, capitalized on a perfect cross to head in the decisive goal in the 119th minute. His heroics ensured a 2-1 triumph for Spain, sending the Germans home and propelling La Roja into the semifinal.

In a closely contested match, Portugal arguably edged the performance on the day.
Penalties were needed to decide the winner between Portugal and France after 120+ minutes of football failed to produce a goal.
When it came to the shootout, France showed nerves of steel. All five of their penalty takers converted their chances, while three of Portugal’s four penalty takers found the back of the net.
The decisive moment came when Joao Felix missed his kick, the third kick, sealing Portugal’s fate.
France triumphed 5-3 in the penalty shootout, securing their place in the semifinals.

England and the Netherlands will face off in the semifinal of Euro 2024 after both nations fought back from a goal down to secure victories against Switzerland and Turkey, respectively.
🏴 England ( 1 ) – ( 1 ) 🇨🇭Switzerland
In a dramatic conclusion to a tightly contested match, England triumphed over Switzerland in a penalty shootout to secure their spot in the semi-finals of the 2024 Euro. England had to survive a scare when they went down a goal with 15 minutes left in regulation time. Fortunately, they got even 5 minutes later with a goal from Bukayo Saka.
The match ended in a 1-1 draw after regulation and extra time, necessitating the nerve-wracking decider from the spot.
England displayed impeccable composure during the shootout, with all five of their designated players converting their penalties. Cole Palmer set the tone with a confident strike, putting the pressure squarely on Switzerland. The decisive moment came when Manuel Akanji failed to convert, his miss proving to be the only blemish in the shootout and the pivotal difference between the two sides.
England are into the semi-finals of the 2024 Euro.
🇳🇱 Netherlands vs. 🇹🇷 Turkiye
The Netherlands came from a goal down to ensure their match against Turkiye didn’t need extra time. Samet Akaydin headed in a cross from Arda Guler to give Turkiye the lead in the 35th minute. Thirty-five minutes later, the Netherlands tied the score with their own headed goal from Stefan de Vrij, with Memphis Depay providing the cross.
The winning goal for the Dutch came in the 76th minute through a Mert Muldur own goal, scored in an attempt to stop Cody Gakpo from scoring. The Netherlands advanced to the semifinals with a 2-1 win over Turkiye.

🇪🇸 Spain vs. 🇫🇷 France
Spain and France have faced each other several times in this competitions, with their most significant clash being in the 1984 final, where France won 2-0 to claim their first-ever major title.
The teams met in the group stage of the 1996 Euro, resulting in a 1-1 draw. France gained the upper hand in the 2000 Euro, winning 2-1 in the quarterfinals and eventually capturing the tournament title. Twelve years later, Spain turned the tables, defeating France 2-0 in the quarterfinals and going on to win the 2012 Euro.
They meet for the semifinal of the 2024 Euro.

🇳🇱 Netherlands vs. 🏴 England
The last time the Euro was hosted in Germany, the Netherlands emerged victorious, marking their only major title to date. To repeat history, they will need to secure a win against an English side that is seeking its first title in the tournament and its first major title since winning the 1966 World Cup, their only major title to date.
The two sides met in Euro 1988, where Marco Van Basten scored a hat-trick to lead the Netherlands to a 3-1 victory over England. They faced each other again in the group stage of Euro 1996, where England triumphed 4-1, with Alan Shearer and Teddy Sheringham each scoring two goals.
