The Spanish La Liga after the 5th round

Real Madrid continues to lead the league with a perfect record. The top three teams remain the same, but there have been some changes in position. Athletic Club moved up to fourth place after defeating Cadiz, replacing Atletico Madrid, who fell two places to seventh. Sevilla moved out of last place and was replaced by Almeria. Sevilla’s victory over Las Palmas means that all teams in the league now have at least one point.

After a 7-0 thrashing by Atletico Madrid and a 1-0 loss to Real Betis, Rayo Vallecano picked up their first league win in two games with a ‘2-0’ home win over Alaves.

Athletic Club recovered from a goalless draw with Mallorca in the previous round with a ‘3-0’ win over Cadiz thanks to three goals in the second half.

Following a ‘7-0’ win over Rayo Vallecano, Atletico Madrid suffered their first defeat of the season, falling ‘3-0’ in Valencia. Hugo Duro scored twice to lead Valencia to their first victory in three games. A result that ended a run of consecutive league defeats for Valencia, and handed Atletico Madrid their first league defeat of the new season.

Celta Vigo’s first victory of the season was followed by another one. Vedat Muriqi scored the game’s only goal to give Mallorca their first win of the season, a 1-0 away win over Celta Vigo.

Barcelona had a comfortable victory. They thrashed Real Betis 5-0, with both Joao Felix and Joao Cancelo scoring. Joao Felix opened the scoring for the match, and Joao Cancelo closed it out.

Getafe gave up a goal lead on two occasions during their match against Osasuna, but Nemanja Maksimovic scored winning goal for Getafe in the 86th minute to restore their lead and give Getafe a victory.

Despite scoring first, Almeria remained winless in the league after conceding an injury time goal in both halves against Villarreal. Villarreal won 2-1 to pick up their second win of the season and end a run of consecutive league defeats. Alexander Sorloth scored the game winner.

Dodi Lukebakio scored the only goal of the game in the 71st minute to give Sevilla their first league victory of the season. Sevilla’s win came against a newly promoted Las Palmas side that remains winless in the league.

Real Madrid maintained their unblemished record with a comeback victory. They began their comeback in the first minute of the second half and finished it within an hour. Real Madrid beat Real Sociedad ‘2-1’.

Yan Couto scored a late goal in the 89th minute to secure the win for Girona, after Granada pulled a goal away from getting an equalizing goal in the 85th minute. It finished as a ‘4-2’ away win for Girona to stay unbeaten and pick up their fourth win of the season.
