SPANISH LA LIGA – Round 27

Barcelona is on the rise as the traditional top three are back in the Champions League qualification spot in the Spanish La Liga with 11 more rounds left to go.

Barcelona has a game in hand. Barcelona has the advantage with their game in hand as the battle is looking intense from 3rd to 6th.

Bottom-tabled Levante was the only side in the relegation zone not to win. Relegation-zoned Alaves and Cadiz picked up wins in this round to move away from Levante.

In the opening match of the round, Sevilla followed a derby win against Real Betis with a goalless draw against relegation zoned Alaves.

Villarreal followed a 5-1 win against Espanyol with a ‘1-0’ defeat to Osasuna.
Ezequiel Avila’s goal in the 63rd minute handed Osasuna the result to end consecutive defeats while handing Villarreal their first defeat in seven games [6
league games].

Espanyol bounced back from the 5-1 defeat to Villarreal by beating Getafe ‘2-0’.

After reaching the Copa del Rey final in the midweek, an inspired Valencia made home advantage count to pick up another league victory. Valencia celebrated becoming a cup finalist with a 3-1 win at home over relegation-threatened Granada.

REAL MADRID 4-1 REAL SOCIEDAD: Two strikes from outside of the box in the dying minutes of the first half got Real Madrid from an early goal down to take a 2-1 lead to the break.
It could have been a 3-1 Real Madrid lead at the end of the first half if VAR hadn’t chopped off Karim Benzema’s goal for an offside by the thinnest of margins.
It didn’t stop Benzema from getting on the score sheet in the second half to add to the goals Camavinga and Modric had scored for Real Madrid in the first half.

Cadiz first win in five league matches while also extending Rayo Vallecano’s streak to eight league matches without a win. [7 defeats]

Memphis Depay converted from the penalty spot to get Barcelona a third straight league victory from a 2-1 victory at Elche.

CELTA VIGO 4- 3 MALLORCA: First victory for Celta Vigo in four games. Four defeats in a row for Mallorca. Iago Aspas scored from a penalty kick in the 7th minute of the final additional minutes to get Celta Vigo on the right side of a seven-goal thriller with Mallorca.

Cristian Tello came into the game in the 11th minute and scored at the end of the first half to get Real Betis level but Joao Felix scored another after the hour mark to restore the lead he had given Atletico Madrid in the second minute. Atletico Madrid go on to win 3-1.
