The first quarter of the 2017/18 UEFA Champions League ‘Round of 16’ – English teams are having a good year in the Champions League and Real Madrid remains a major player in the title race

Juventus did a rare thing at home by blowing a two-goal lead to leave the first-leg of the Round-of-16 with just a point and an ‘away goal’ disadvantage. After Juventus missed chances to put the game away in the early minutes, Tottenham grew confidence and went on to leave Turin with an important point for the 2nd-leg.

Basel was no match for the attacking threat of Manchester City. Ilkay Gundogan opened and ended the scoring in a fixture that saw Manchester City leave Basel with a win and 4 valuable away goals. It is difficult to see Basel ability to recover from that goal margin.

Sadio Mane scored a hat-trick while Mohamed Salah continues to shine as Liverpool continued to add to the success that English teams are having in the competition by going to Portugal and getting a victory against Porto. It is highly improbable that Liverpool will blow a ‘5-0’ away goal lead at Anfield in the second leg.

Cristiano Ronaldo scored two to see Real Madrid take one over Paris Saint-Germain.
PSG had the dream start they wanted when Adrien Rabiot scored to give them lead in the 33rd minute. A late first-half penalty allowed Real Madrid to get an equalizer before the break, then turned the tie around later in the match with two late goals to win at home by 3 goals to 1.
