West Ham United ( 0 ) – ( 3 ) Chelsea
Nicolas Jackson opened the scoring for Chelsea in the 4th minute and doubled the lead with another goal in the 18th minute. Cole Palmer added the final goal of the match in the second minute of the second half, securing a 3-0 away win for Chelsea over West Ham.
Aston Villa ( 3 ) – ( 1 ) Wolverhampton Wanderers
It took some time, but Aston Villa came from a goal down to beat Wolves 3-1. Matheus Cunha put Wolves in the lead with his goal in the 25th minute, and it wasn’t until the 73rd minute that Ollie Watkins leveled the score for Aston Villa. Ezri Konsa scored the winning goal in the 88th minute, before Jhon Duran sealed the victory in the fourth minute of added time. The result leaves Wolves without a win, having lost four of their opening five matches.
Fulham ( 3 ) – ( 1 ) Newcastle United
Fulham established a 2-goal lead in the first half, which was halved early in the second half. However, they held on and restored their 2-goal advantage with a late goal in the second minute of stoppage time, securing a 3-1 victory over Newcastle.
Leicester City ( 1 ) – ( 1 ) Everton
Everton finally broke their habit of squandering leads, though they couldn’t hold on for a win in their 1-1 draw against Leicester City. After taking the lead, unlike in their previous two league games where they surrendered 2-goal advantages to lose 3-2, the Toffees managed to avoid defeat this time around. The result leaves both sides still searching for their first league win, but Everton will take some relief in securing their first point of the season.
Liverpool ( 3 ) – ( 0 ) Bournemouth
Three first-half goals secured the win for the Reds, who bounced back in style after conceding their first Premier League goal and suffering their first defeat of the campaign. Liverpool responded emphatically to their first league setback of the season, a 1-0 home defeat to Nottingham Forest, by cruising to a 3-0 victory over Bournemouth at Anfield.
Southampton ( 1 ) – ( 1 ) Ipswich Town
Southampton looked poised to secure their first league win of the season after an early 5th-minute strike, but Ipswich Town salvaged a dramatic point with a stoppage-time equalizer in the 95th minute (90+5′). Despite the disappointment of conceding so late, Southampton can take solace in claiming their first league point of the campaign. The search for a victory, however, continues for both sides.
Tottenham Hotspur ( 3 ) – ( 1 ) Brentford
Brentford took the lead just one minute into the match, but it wasn’t enough to secure a victory against Tottenham. Dominic Solanke equalized in the 8th minute, and Brennan Johnson scored the winning goal 20 minutes later. James Maddison added a third goal in the 85th minute, sealing a 3-1 win for Tottenham.
Crystal Palace ( 0 ) – ( 0 ) Manchester United
Crystal Palace remain winless in the league after a goalless draw at home against Manchester United, a result that leaves United frustrated as they can’t afford to be dropping points in these kinds of matches.
Brighton & Hove Albion ( 2 ) – ( 2 ) Nottingham Forest
Brighton and Nottingham Forest played out an entertaining 2-2 draw, extending their unbeaten starts to the Premier League season. Both sides now boast identical records after five rounds, though Brighton holds a slight advantage in goals scored. After falling behind early, Brighton rallied to take a 2-1 lead heading into the break. But Nottingham Forest clawed back, equalizing in the 70th minute through substitute Ramon Sosa. The match saw its share of drama off the pitch as well, with both managers sent off, alongside Nottingham Forest’s Morgan Gibbs-White, who also received a red card.
Manchester City ( 2 ) – ( 2 ) Arsenal
In a thrilling contest between two Premier League giants, Manchester City and Arsenal both extended their unbeaten runs, but City saw their perfect start to the season halted in dramatic fashion.
Erling Haaland opened the scoring for City in the 9th minute, slotting home to give the defending champions an early lead. However, the game took a turn when City’s midfield anchor Rodri was forced off with an injury in the 21st minute, with Mateo Kovacic coming on in his place. Just a minute later, Arsenal capitalized on the disruption as Riccardo Calafiori curled a stunning strike from outside the box to bring the Gunners level.
In first-half stoppage time, Arsenal took the lead through Gabriel, who rose highest to head home from a corner in the 45+1′ minute, giving Mikel Arteta’s side a 2-1 advantage heading into the break. The momentum shifted again shortly after when Leandro Trossard picked up his second yellow card just seven minutes later, reducing Arsenal to 10 men and leaving them with a numerical disadvantage for the entire second half.
Despite being down a man, Arsenal defended valiantly and came agonizingly close to handing Manchester City their first defeat of the season. But in the final seconds of added time, City found a lifeline as John Stones struck in the 98th minute to salvage a 2-2 draw, securing a point for the visitors.
