Despite Augsburg later going down to 10 men themselves in the 70th minute, Mainz had already endured 35 minutes with a numerical disadvantage. In the end, their resilience paid off as they held on to claim a crucial three points, jumping a point ahead of Augsburg in the standings. Mainz secured their first Bundesliga win of the season in a thrilling 3-2 victory away at Augsburg, who entered the match off the back of their own first league win. Mainz took early control, building a two-goal lead, only for Augsburg to pull one back in the 25th minute. The game took a dramatic turn when Mainz were reduced to 10 men after a red card in the 35th minute, putting their lead under pressure.
Bochum ( 2 ) – ( 2 ) Holstein Kiel
Bochum looked set for a 2-1 home victory, but substitute Shuto Machino, introduced in the 79th minute, scored the equalizer for Holstein Kiel just ten minutes later. Both sides entered the match without a point after the first three rounds of the Bundesliga season, and despite sharing the spoils in a 2-2 draw, they finally managed to get off the mark with a point each. The search for a first win, however, continues for both teams.
Heidenheim ( 0 ) – ( 3 ) Freiburg
Ritsu Doan netted twice as Freiburg turned on the afterburners in the second half to secure a 3-0 victory over Heidenheim. The win earned Freiburg three valuable points and handed Heidenheim their second consecutive league defeat after a strong start to the Bundesliga season with back-to-back wins.
Union Berlin ( 2 ) – ( 1 ) Hoffenheim
Union Berlin capitalized on a strong start, with two goals in the opening 6 minutes securing a 2-1 win over Hoffenheim. The result keeps Union Berlin unbeaten in the league, while Hoffenheim lose three in a row since their 3-2 win over Holstein Keil in their season opener.
Werder Bremen ( 0 ) – ( 5 ) Bayern Munich
Michael Olise’s brace helped Bayern Munich to a commanding 5-0 victory over Werder Bremen, solidifying their position at the top of the Bundesliga with a perfect four wins from four. The result marks back-to-back league wins with a 5-goal margin for Bayern, following their 6-1 thrashing of Holstein Kiel. Sandwiched between these domestic triumphs, the Bavarians also showcased their firepower in Europe with a stunning 9-2 win against Dinamo Zagreb in the UEFA Champions League.
Bayer Leverkusen ( 4 ) – ( 3 ) Wolfsburg
Bayer Leverkusen faced mounting pressure to reclaim their form and stay in the title race after an unexpected early-season setback. Having gone unbeaten throughout the previous campaign, the Werkself were eager to reassert their dominance as they hosted Wolfsburg. But things didn’t go according to plan in the first half, as Leverkusen found themselves trailing 3-2 at the break, raising concerns of dropped points. However, much like last season, Leverkusen showed their resilience. Two second-half goals, including a dramatic stoppage-time winner from Victor Boniface in the 93rd minute, secured a thrilling 4-3 victory and kept their title defense ambitions alive.
Stuttgart ( 5 ) – ( 1 ) Borussia Dortmund
Sehrou Guirassy scored to pull one back for this new clubs (Dortmund), but his former club (Stuttgart) had the better night. Borussia Dortmund suffered their first defeat of the Bundesliga season in a crushing 5-1 loss to Stuttgart, as the home side doubled their win tally in emphatic fashion. Deniz Undav was the star for Stuttgart, opening the scoring in the 4th minute and capping it off with a late goal in the 90th to secure a four-goal margin. Ermedin Demirović added a second in the 21st minute, which ultimately proved to be the game-winner. Dortmund struggled to find a foothold as Stuttgart dominated throughout, handing them a heavy defeat and shaking up the early season standings.
St. Pauli ( 0 ) – ( 0 ) RB Leipzig
While St. Pauli celebrated their first point, Leipzig maintained their unbeaten record in the league. St. Pauli managed to secure their first point of the Bundesliga season with a hard-fought goalless draw against RB Leipzig.
