Real Madrid crawled back from two goals down to get a point at home against Elche.
The points dropped allowed Real Betis to close in on the top two with their victory against Espanyol.
Atletico Madrid also crawled from two goals down to win 3-2 against Valencia.
A late goal got Barcelona the three points to move a position up to 5th.
Real Sociedad dropped a position down to 6th after a goalless draw with Getafe.
