Malaga                             3-2          Sporting Gijon

Malaga had to come from a goal down on two occasions to get a home win over Sporting Gijon.  After trailing for most of the first half, Sandro Ramirez’s late goal for Malaga at the end of the half sent the teams to the break with a 1-1 draw.

The restart of the match saw Malaga go down a goal again after Duje Cop netted Sporting Gijon’s second of the match.  Sandro Ramirez found ane equalizing goal for the home team, and when Sporting Gijon was reduced to 10 men after Manuel Castellano received a second yellow card, Malaga made the numerical advantage count by scoring the winning goal just  six minutes later.

Granada remains winless in the 2016/17 La Liga season, but they were able to pick up point at home against Deportivo La Coruna.

Real Sociedad                     2-0               Atlético Madrid

Two second-half goals from Real Sociedad forced Atletico Madrid to drop vital points.  

It was a victory Real Sociedad needed to fight for a chance to partake in European competitions.

Atletico Madrid needed the victory to stay relevant in the title race.

Osasuna                                 0-1              Alaves

Two newly promoted sides faced each other. And from where they sit on the league table, this wasn’t a shocking result.

A second-half penalty gave Alaves a home win that put a stop their four-match winless streak in the league.

Osasuna, on the other hand, is on their third consecutive winless match.

Las Palmas                          1-0                    Eibar

Jonathan Viera 90’+4’

A late goal at the end of injury time gave Las Palmas a home victory over Eibar.  It was a victory that sent Las Palmas from two points below to Eibar a point above in the league standings.

Real Madrid held on to the number 1 spot on the La Liga table by making sure no points were dropped in front of their home crowd.  

Leganes tactics were good for the match. It just so happens that the quality Real Madrid has on the team was too strong for the tactics to work for Leganes.

Espanyol                                                     0-0                         Athletic Club

It was a goalless draw between Espanyol and Athletic Club.  On the balance of play, neither team deserved more than a point.

Celta Vigo                                       2-1                            Valencia

John Guidetti 77’

Celta Vigo bounced back after going a goal down to beat a struggling Valencia side.  John Guidetti scored the winning goal for the home team in the 77th minute.

It was  the 3rd consecutive match without a win for Valencia after their 2-1 win over Sporting Gijon.

Villarreal                                         2-0                              Real Betis

It was a consecutive league defeat for Real Betis.

A goal in each half got Villarreal back to their winning ways and gave them a home win  over Real Betis.

Sevilla                                               1-2                                   Barcelona

Barcelona came from a goal down to avoid dropping points against Sevilla.

The victory gave Barcelona a four-point gap between themselves and Sevilla. It also maintains the two-point gap between Barcelona and the league leaders Real Madrid.
