LA LIGA

No positional changes were made in the ‘top four’.
The 5 points remain between the top two teams but Sevilla has a game in hand to potentially cut Real Madrid’s lead down to two points.
Real Madrid and Sevilla got the maximum points to move further away from the chasing pack.
Barcelona dropped points and a position in the standings after a point against Granada.
Levante picked up their first win of the season.

LEVANTE 2- 0 MALLORCA
11 defeats, 8 draws, and now 1 win
Roberto Soldado and his second-half replacement [Jose Luis Morales] scored the goals to get Levante their first La Liga win of the season.

VAR ruled out Fer Nino’s goal to deny Mallorca, Brian Olivia n failed to convert the penalty that would’ve given Mallorca the equalizing goal, and Jose Campana was sent off on a red card in the 83rd minute to leave Levante with a numerical disadvantage.

REAL SOCIEDAD 1-0 CELTA VIGO
Mikel Oyarzabal’s goal in the 13th minute ended a run of six league matches without a win for Real Sociedad.

GRANADA 1-1 BARCELONA
Barcelona went down a man in the 79th minute when Gavi picked up a second yellow card.
A goal up and a man down from the 79th minute proved too much for Barcelona to come out of Granada with the three points.

REAL MADRID 4-1 VALENCIA
Benzema and Vinicius Junior evenly shared the goals that led Real Madrid to their first 3 points of the new year.
A soft first-half penalty was all Real Madrid needed to get back to winning ways after kicking off their year with a defeat.
Karim Benzema converted the penalty into a 43rd-minute goal to get Real Madrid to the break with the lead.
They returned for the second half and finished the job right around the hour mark.

RAYO VALLECANO 1-1 REAL BETIS
Real Betis with a man down took the lead but did not help
them protect that lead to the final whistle.

SEVILLA 1-0 GETAFE
Rafa Mir’s goal in the 22nd minute got Sevilla the maximum points against Getafe.

VILLARREAL 2-2 ATLETICO MADRID
Villarreal missed a penalty and a goal pulled back but still managed a point at home.
Before picking up a second yellow card to get sent off, Geoffrey Kondogbia scored the equalizing goal for Atletico Madrid to get a point against Villarreal
Angel Correa opened the scoring for the game with a 40-yard strike.
Atletico Madrid is not looking like a team that can defend their crown.


ESPANYOL 1- 2 ELCHE
Goals from Pere Milla got Elche their fourth victory of the season.
