Kirian Rodriguez’s goal in the first half was enough to see Las Palmas open an 8-point gap on Alaves with a ‘1-0’ win.
Jude Bellingham added to his scoring tally in the league, but Real Madrid dropped two points in Seville when Aito Ruibal scored an equalizing goal 13 minutes later, earning Real Betis a point at home.
Real Sociedad scored three goals towards the end of the opening half to enter the break with a ‘3-0’ lead that stood for them to pick up three points away against Villarreal.
Sevilla has had two wins from their last 15 matches, with both wins coming in the Copa del Rey. Their latest result is a ‘1-0’ defeat to the Mallorca side that had two wins from twelve matches, both coming in the Copa del Rey as well. Cyle Larin’s 11th-minute goal secured the home win for Mallorca. Sevilla is with a game in hand but a point behind Mallorca.
Almería put up a decent fight, but they remain winless after a 2-1 defeat against Atlético Madrid. The outcome became predictable when Atlético Madrid took a 2-goal lead into the break.
The Granada vs. Athletic Club fixture had to be suspended after a supporter suffered a medical emergency and tragically passed away. Athletic Club had a goal lead at the time of the game suspension. Thoughts are with the loved ones of the victim. The match was played the following day, ending in a fitting ‘1-1’ draw.
A 2-1 win in both halves secured three points for Girona away against Barcelona. Girona won the Catalan derby against Barcelona by 4 goals to 2. While Girona winning a Catalan derby against Barcelona may not be surprising given the current league standings, it is an upset considering the traditional and financial differences between the two clubs.
