Roma was so close to a double and closer to denying Inter Milan from their treble.

ROMA 2009/10 could have denied Inter Milan a treble.

Roma won their first continental title in 2022; the UEFA Europa Conference League.
The 2000/01 Italian Serie A is Roma’s most recent league title, 2008 was the last time they were Coppa Italia champions, and 2007 was their recent Supercoppa Italiana win.

But in the 2009/10 season, they could’ve denied Inter Milan of a treble.

Despite having the advantage in the head-to-head with Inter Milan in Serie A, it was Roma who ended the season trophyless, while Inter Milan became the first Italian club to win the treble.

Roma picked up a point at the San Siro and took the maximum points at the Stadio Olimpico.

DEFEATS AT STADIO OLIMPICO DENIED ROMA FROM A LEAGUE DOUBLE IN 2010.

IN THE LEAGUE: Three points dropped at home in a 2-1 defeat to Sampdoria ended up becoming the difference in the title race for Roma.

They lost the league by 2 points.

IN THE CUP: Roma suffered a 1-0 Coppa Italia final defeat to Inter Milan.

They lost the cup by 1 goal.
Champions: Inter Milan
Runner-up: Roma

In the Continental Cup competition:
EUROPA LEAGUE, Roma was knocked out by Panathaniakos in the knockout stage after a 3-2 defeat in both legs of their Round of 32 tie.

They won a group that included Fulham.
Fulham surprised everyone by going all the way to the final before losing 2-1 to Atletico Madrid after extra time.
It would’ve been a bigger blow if Fulham had (also) gone on to win the tournament after coming behind Roma in their group.

Roma -13 points
Fulham – 11 points
Basel – 9 points
CSKA Sofia – 1 point

It was a season that could’ve ended differently for Roma in terms of silverware won. They had to watch teams that were not any better achieve a memorable level of success.
