French Ligue1

Remember me? Olympique Lyonnais?

Can we call it a comeback?

Is it safe to expect that Lyon will return as top dawgs in Ligue 1? It is safe for fans of Olympique Lyonnais to dream again?

Money can do a lot, but not everything. PSG remained favorite.2015 was the Year that Paris Saint Germain made their statement to French football. They are here to dominate every sector. In 2015, OL had a great chance of adding on to their 7 Ligue 1 trophies.  They started the season strong, and remained in the top 2 for most of the season. There were moments in the season that gave fans expectations of an Olympique Lyonnais  league winning season. Lyon ending the season within 10 points of the league leaders was an accomplishment.

Not too long ago, Lyon was dominating the Ligue 1. For over the first half of the last decade, Olympique Lyonnais dominated the Ligue 1. The league title was theirs from 2001 to 2008. Since then, Olympique Lyonnais failed to grab a title in the French football league system, until 2012; when they won the Coupe de France.

They have circumferenced around the top side of the table by being among the top 5 every season. Can we expect a resurgence of Olympique Lyonnais any time soon. Or is Paris Saint Germain’s dominance going to extend till they eventually beat St. Etienne’s record in the league.

2015/16 Season is not looking like a season Lyon can even repeat what they did last year. They are having a hard time getting into the position that will get them into European competition for the following season.  Their experience in the 2015/16 UEFA Champions League is one that they will want to forget. They came in bottom in a table that included teams that they should have been able to compete against. 1 win in 6 matches was just poor. Maybe the workload was too much for the team, early exit form the Champions League shouldn’t dp the team bad. They can focus on the league. Ligue 1 needs challengers.  As for now, we sit and witness greatness, as Laurent Blanc and his boys rule French Ligue 1.
