Real Madrid 3-2 Sevilla.

It was a replay of the 2014 UEFA Super Cup, and the story had the same ending.

For the third time in a row, Sevilla has lost to a La Liga opposition in the UEFA Super Cup.

When it comes to the Europa League finals Sevilla can’t seem to lose,and when it comes to the UEFA Super Cup, Sevilla can’t seem to win.

In 90 minutes, both teams had and lost the lead. Real Madrid was first to get on the scoreboard when Marco Asensio put the team up in the 21st minute with a wonder strike to the top left corner of the goal. Franco Vazquez equalized in the 41st minute for Sevilla, and Yevhen Konoplyanka gave them the lead in the 72nd minute from the penalty spot.

Typical Sergio Ramos style, he broke the hearts of opposition fans by grabbing a late equalizer to send the match into extra time. And as always, Ramos got his goal with a header.

Sevilla was a man down very early in extra time. Timothée Kolodziejczak picked up a second yellow just three minutes into the extra time. The late equalizer from Sergio Ramos + the quality on Real Madrid side + the numerical disadvantage on Sevilla’s side predicted a win for Madrid.

The majority of the extra time was watching to see when Sevilla defense would be cracked. Sergio Ramos thought he had gotten a second header in the net, but his goal was disallowed because he was deemed to be offside.  

With just a minute left of the match, Dani Carvajal’s solo effort delivered the winning goal Real Madrid had been seeking.

Real Madrid under Zinedine Zidane has won two European titles in less than a year. It is a trend that would make fans dream of the La Liga title in the coming season.
