Luka Modric curled the ball into the net in the 38th minute to get Real Madrid the winning goal of the 2022 Supercopa de España final. Karim Benzema used the penalty spot to double the lead.
Real Madrid was reduced to 10 men after Eder Militao got booked a red card for a handball in the penalty box. The resulting penalty (taken by Raul Garcia) was saved by Thibaut Courtois (with his feet).
The two teams are scheduled to meet again on Thursday for their Copa del Rey (Round of 16) tie.
