Nigeria’s World Cup Overview

Posted on

Nigeria (Super Eagles) in Brazil……..

The African champions will be coming to the World Cup in hopes of reversing to their earlier performances in the competition. This will be the 5th time for Nigeria, and with the exception of the 2006, they would have made it a consecutive appearance in the competition since their debut in 1994.

Nigeria has been unable to get out of the group stage their last two world cup participation. Let us see what they might be bringing to change that.

The Venom

Leading in attack will be Emmanuel Emenike. This sharp shooter has proven his worth for Nigeria the world cup qualification and their quest to get back their title as the champions of Africa. He is destined to make the same impact in Group F.

Emmanuel Emenike

Brown Ideye from Dynamo Kyiv (Ukrainian Premier League), Victor Obinna from Lokomotiv Moscow (Russian Premier League),  and Obafemi Martins from Seattle Sounders (MLS) are other attacking forwards to look out for.

The Control and Support

Nigeria has adopted the 4-2-3-1 formation. Because of this we will be seeing Ahmed Musa and Victor Moses using their pace on the flanks to come from the midfield to help the striker.  Both players are usually playing as third striker for their respective clubs.

Victor Moses

There is also the more experienced John Obi Mikel, and the up and coming Sunday Mba, who will have the opportunity to promote their worth on the world stage.

The Bouncers

We will be looking out at the veteran, Joseph Yobo to guide the defensive line. Along side Yobo, we recommend that you pay attention to Efe Ambrose and Kenneth Omeruo

So what is it for the Super Eagles?  How will they fare?

Coming into the competition as continental champions is is a sign that this is a team has what it takes to go for the trophy.

With the exception of Argentina,  the Super Eagles will have a pretty good shot at a win against the other group mates. With good discipline in their tactical approach,  they might cause an upset and emerge as the group winners.

But as always this is futbol and there will be some drama, suspense and surprises, and that is why we will have to be watching to see if Nigeria will be able to make their advantage count.
