THE MEN’S TOURNAMENT

THE SEMIFINALS
(Japan and Mexico) The winner and runner-up of Group A were both in a contest for a place in the final, both fell short and will have to contest for the bronze.

Both games needed more than the regulation time to find the winner.

MEXICO 0-0 BRAZIL {Brazil win 4-1 on penalties}
Mexico and Brazil needed penalty kickoffs to find the winner after going goalless for the entirety of the game. All four Brazilian penalty takers converted their shot into goal, while Mexico’s first two attempts didn’t find the net. Brazil advanced to the final with a 4-1 win after the penalty kickoffs.

JAPAN 0-1 SPAIN
Spain eliminated the host nation with 5 minutes left of additional time to be played. Marco Asensio came into the match in the 84th minute and scored the only goal of the match from a spectacular strike to get Spain a win in extra-time (115th minute).
