La Liga – Round Three

September 9,2016

Real Sociedad            1-1            Espanyol

Willian Jose 78’                            Pablo Piatti 62’

It was looking like their first win of the season when Pablo Piatti opened the scoring in the 62nd minute for Espanyol, but Willain Jose’s goal for Real Sociedad in the 78th minute made sure that Espanyol remains winless after three matches in 2016/17 La Liga season.

It was an evenly contested match, and a draw was a good scoreline.

September 10, 2016

Celta Vigo               0-4             Atletico Madrid

                                                       Koke 53’

                                                       Antoine Griezmann 73’, 81’

                                                       Angel Correa 89’

The winless streak is over. Atletico Madrid turned things on in the second half to thrash Celta Vigo 4 goals and got their first win of the season.

Real Madrid                    5-2               Osasuna

Cristiano Ronaldo 6’                           Oriol Riera 64’

Danilo 41’                                              David Garcia 78’

Sergio Ramos 45’+1

Pepe 56’

Luka Modric 62’

Cristiano Ronaldo returned to action with a goal for Real Madrid. Cristiano’s goal was the opening of five more goals from Real Madrid to keep their winning start to the season.

Madrid was 3-0 up at the half, making it even easier to predict the winner. Osasuna pulled two goals back after conceding five. Real Madrid was too comfortable to be bothered at that point.

Match finished with Real Madrid remaining undefeated, and Osasuna remaining winless.

Malaga                   0-2              Villarreal

                                                       Jaume Costa 33’

                                                       Nicola Sansone 44’

It could have been 3 -0 if Villarreal hadn’t missed a penalty. Villarreal got their first win of the season, while Malaga continues to search for theirs. Two first half goals were enough to secure all three points for the away side.

Sevilla                        2-1                 Las Palmas

Pablo Sarabia 89’(pen)                  Tana 16’

Carlos Fernandez 90’+4

A late red card and a penalty awarded against Las Palmas allowed Sevilla to deny Las Palmas of another win to their amazing start of the season. Newly promoted Las Palmas were undefeated coming to this match and despite this loss, they still remain up on the table with the ‘big boys’ of La Liga.

The win shoots Sevilla above Las Palmas by a point. Las Palmas continue with their start, there is a lot the team can accomplish by the end of the season.

Barcelona                1-2               Alaves

Jeremy Mathieu 47’                    Deyverson 39’

Ibai Gomez 64’

UPSET!!!!!!

When a newly promoted club goes away to play the defending champions and also arguably the best team in the world, the results are expected to go in only one direction. The statistics would make Barcelona the winner if goals didn’t decide matches.

What a way for Alaves to get their first win of the season?

Deportivo Alaves shocked FC Barcelona and the football world when they took three points out of Camp Nou in a match that they put Barcelona behind on two occasions.

Both of Barcelona’s biggest rivals won their matches this weekend, making it a major slip for the club as well. Barcelona brought in their top guns in the 60th minutes to stop this defeat from happening. Lionel Messi, Andres Iniesta, and Luis Suarez had to come in off the bench to play a match that was supposed to give them a break.

Sporting Gijon              2-1           Leganes

Nacho Cases 17’                            Diego Rico 58’

Duje Cop 43’ (pen)

Two first half goals ensured that undefeated Sporting Gijon would grab maximum points from Leganes. Duje Cop first half penalty goal ended up being the winning goal when Diego Rico scored in the second half for Leganes.

Valencia                2-3           Real Betis

Rodrigo 75’                            Ruben Castro 38’, 90’+2

Ezequiel Garay 78’               Joaquin 54’

Real Betis got their first win of the season and Valencia suffers another loss. Three matches into the season and Valencia has lost every one of them.

Ruben Castro’s late goal gave Real Betis and away win in Valencia.  Castro was the player to open the scoring in this match when he gave Betis the lead in the first half.

Valencia equalized and took the lead in the space of three minutes. Rodrigo scored the equalizer in the 75th minute, and Garay gave them the lead in the 78th. Momentum was looking to shift to the home side, but Ruben Castro scored a late winner for Betis to sandwich the goals in this match.

Granada                   1-2        Eibar

Artem Kravets 76′                Pedro Leon 43’

                                                 Sergi Enrich 90’+ 4

Playing away from home and being numerically disadvantaged did not stop Eibar from winning their match against Granada.

Asier Riesgo was sent off in the 32nd minute to leave Eibar with 10 men on the pitch, but Pedro Leon scored about 20 minutes later to give them a lead to go into halftime.

Artem Kravets equalized for Granada in the 76th  minute, before Sergi Enrich found the winner for Eibar four minutes after regulation time.

Deportivo La Coruna    0-1          Athletic Club

                                                          Raul Garcia 41’

To avoid a third consecutive loss to the start of their season, Athletic Club battled away to get their first win of the season from Deportivo La Coruna. Raul Garcia’s first-half goal was the only goal that was scored in this fixture.
