Real Madrid                                      5-0                   Granada

Isco 12’ 31’

Karim Benzema 21’

Cristiano Ronaldo 27’ 58’

Another victory for Real Madrid as they continue to dominate football another Zinedine Zidane’s management. The newly-crowned World champions carried on their winning streak into the new year.

With the forms of these teams, this was an expected scoreline in many cases.

2011-12 La Liga season was the last time Real Madrid won the league. They’ve always been a great contender, but they are looking greater this year.

Eibar                                                   0-2                           Atletico Madrid

                                                                                            Saul Niguez 54’

                                                                                            Antoine Griezmann 74’

Many would agree that this season has not gone to plan for Atletico Madrid.

Atletico scored two in the second half to get an away victory over Eibar and start the new year with a league victory.

Las Palmas                                        1-0                             Sporting Gijon

Nabil El Zhar 55’

It was a good start to the year for the home team. Las Palmas got a victory after going three league matches without.

Real Sociedad                                    0-4                              Sevilla

                                                                                                  Wissam Ben Yedder 26’ 29’ 83’

                                                                                                  Pablo Sarabia 73’

Wissam Ben Yedder scored a hattrick to help Sevilla to an away victory over Real Sociedad and kept his team up the pace with Real Madrid.

Athletic Club                                                  0-0                                 Alaves

It was a goalless draw between Athletic Club and Alaves in an evenly contested fixture.

Real Betis                                                     2-0                            Leganes

Ruben Castro 51’

Cristiano Piccini 85’

Two goals in the second half allowed Real Betis opened a five-point gap between themselves and Leganes.

Celta Vigo                                                     3-1                            Malaga

Iago Aspas 7’                                                                                Daniel Wass 86’(o.g)

Daniel Wass 60’

Andreu Fontas 73’

Everything went right for Celta Viga as they separated themselves on points from Malaga with a home victory. A Celta Vigo player was responsible for every goal scored in this fixture.

Villarreal                                                           1-1                         Barcelona

Nicola Sansone 50’                                                                       Lionel Messi 90’

Barcelona lost ground in their quest to defend their league title after dropping points to Villarreal.

It could have been worse for Barcelona had it not been the brilliance of Lionel Messi in the final minute of regulation time to give them a point from this fixture.

The result dropped Barcelona into third place on the league table and opened up a five-point gap between them and Real Madrid.

Osasuna                                                          3-3                                Valencia

Oriol Riera 7’                                                                                    Munir El Haddadi 2’

Roberto Torres 62’                                                                          Oriol Riera 45’+1’(o.g)

Carlos Clerc 90’+2’                                                                         Martin Montoya 73’

Even with an early goal to give them a great start, Valencia couldn’t keep a lead and find a goal that would have secured them all three points.

Daniel Parejo missed a penalty that could have secured all three points for Valencia at Osasuna.

Osasuna remains at the bottom of the league table with just a victory after 17 matches in the 2016/17 La Liga season while Valencia missed out on the opportunity to move away from the threat of relegation.
