February 25, 2017

Alaves                          2-1                  Valencia

Ibai Gomez 78’                                                        Carlos Soler 70’
Aleksandar Katai 86’

From beating Real Madrid to losing to recently promoted Alaves; that is the kind of season Valencia is having.

Alaves came from a goal down to avoid a home defeat and secure a consecutive league victory after getting thrashed by Barcelona.

Real Betis                      1-2                    Sevilla

Riza Durmisi 36’                                                         Gabriel Mercado 56’
                                                                                       Vicente Iborra 76’

Sevilla came from a goal down in the first half to score two goals ‘20 minutes’ apart in the second half for an away victory over Real Betis.

Leganes                        4-0             Deportivo La Coruna

Alexander Szymanowski 19’
Martin Mantovani 30’
Unai Lopez 81’
Alberto Bueno 90’+1’

Leganes got a victory to distance themselves from the relegation zone while pushing Deportivo La Coruna closer.

Two goals in each half placed Leganes in a better position, but La Coruna has a match in hand that might be an advantage as both of these teams are trying to avoid the drop zone.

Eibar                                3-0                      Malaga

Adrian Gonzalez 43’ 50’(pen)
Sergi Enrich 52’

Ten minutes around the halfway mark, Eibar got three goals to defeat Malaga and open a 12-point gap between the two sides.

February 26, 2017

Espanyol                         3-0                   Osasuna

Felipe Caicedo 17’
Jose Manuel Jurado 46’
Gerard Moreno 90’+2’

Osasuna suffered a fourth consecutive defeat and remains at the bottom of the league standings.

Having won just a match out of 23, not a lot was expected from Osasuna in their 24th league fixture.

Atletico Madrid                   1-2                Barcelona

Diego Godin 70’                                                                Rafinha 64’
                                                                                             Lionel Messi 86’

Two scrappy goals gave Barcelona their second ‘2-1’ victory over Atletico Madrid at the Vicente Calderon, and Lionel Messi was Barcelona’s savior once again.

Athletic Club                      3-1                Granada

Markel Susaeta 11’                                                       Mehdi Carcela-Gonzalez 14’
Inigo Lekue 33’
Mikel San Jose 69’

Granada remains in the relegation zone after a defeat against Athletic Club.

Sporting Gijon                   1-1                Celta Vigo

Moi Gomez 49’(pen)                                                 Iago Aspas 75’

Celta Vigo got a goal against a 10-man Sporting Gijon to leave with a point.

Sporting Gijon wasn’t going to get out relegation zone with a victory, but they would have been level on points with Deportivo La Coruna; who are sitting at just outside the drop zone.

Villarreal                            2-3                Real Madrid

Manuel Trigueros 50’                                                  Gareth Bale 64’
Cedric Bakambu 56’                                                  Cristiano Ronaldo 74’(pen)
                                                                                        Alvaro Morata 90’+1’

Comeback Kings!

Alvaro Morata scored late to seal a very important victory for Real Madrid to keep marching towards a league title.

Real Madrid came from two goals down to avoid a defeat that would have placed a lot of question marks on their chances of winning the title this season.
