Venezuela gets their 3 points

Posted on

Jamaica vs Venezuela | Soldier Fields, Chicago.

Venezuela kicks off their Copa America Centenario with a win. They walked away with a handy 3 points.

On the other side of the coin, Jamaica started the Copa America Centenario with a loss and a loss of a man to a red card. Jamaica became the 4th team from CONCACAF to play in this tournament, and also the 4th team without a win.

A string of quick passes lead to a 15th-minute goal from Josef Martinez(Venezuela). A goal that was the decider.

Knowing the competition ahead in Group C, this was a match from which both teams were looking forward to getting positive results.

Jamaica conceded a goal with more men on the field than without.

Despite being down a man after the 24th minute, Jamaica could have easily gotten the equalizer they needed on several occasions.

In the other Group C match, Mexico faces Uruguay in Arizona. Mexico will be the 5th CONCACAF side to play in the competition, and will be hoping to end this unflattering trend.

Uruguay, like other CONMEBOL teams is obviously not an easy team to go against.

The next set of Group C matches will be a CONCACAF and CONMEBOL showdown.

Jamaica’s next opposition is Mexico, rematch of the 2015 CONCACAF Gold Cup final. It will surely be game-over for Jamaica if there is a repeat of the scoreline.

Venezuela takes on Uruguay. Venezuela did not take advantage of being a man up. This is a sign of a team that might struggle against the likes of Uruguay and Mexico in their upcoming matches in Group C.
