Chievo Verona    3-5      Roma

Lucas Nahuel Castro 15’                Stephan El Shaarawy 28’ 58’
Roberto Inglese 37’ 86’                  Mohamed Salah 42’ 76’
                                                         Edin Dzeko 83’

Roma couldn’t afford a defeat if they are to finish in second place. Roma had to come from a goal down on two occasions before moving on to a comfortable away victory against Chievo Verona. Edin Dzeko got the final goal of the match to climb to the pole position on the list of goal scorers.

Napoli           4-1     Fiorentina

Kalidou Koulibaly 8’              Josip Ilicic 60’
Lorenzo Insigne 36’
Dries Mertens 57’ 64’

Napoli made it look easy against Fiorentina.

This result at home keeps Napoli on the heels of Roma in the race for the second place finish and direct qualification to the 2017/18 UEFA Champions League group stage.

May 21, 2017

Empoli       0-1        Atalanta

                                                Alejandro Gomez 13’

An early goal was all Atalanta needed to get the maximum points away while keeping Empoli in the relegation battle on the final day of the season.

AC Milan          3-0         Bologna

Gerard Deulofeu 69’
Keisuke Honda 73’
Gianluca Lapadula 90’+1’

AC Milan final home match of the season was a victory against Bologna. The result of this fixture meant little to the teams.

Sassuolo          6-2         Cagliari

Francesco Magnanelli 7’                   Marco Sau 25’
Domenico Berardi 12’                      Artur Ionita 60’
Matteo Politano 13’
Marco Borriello 34’(og)
Pietro Iemmello 56’(pen)
Alessandro Matri 90’

Sassuolo jumped above Cagliari in the league standings after coming at the end of an 8-goal thriller.

Juventus         3-0       Crotone

Mario Mandzukic 12’
Paulo Dybala 29’
Alex Sandro 83’

Congratulations to Juventus. The 2016/17 Italian Serie A winners.

We did not expect Crotone to spoil the party, and they didn’t. Juventus Stadium was ready to celebrate the title, and nothing could stop them on this day.  We knew by the half-time break that the confetti was going to be used.

Juventus picked up a record sixth consecutive Serie A title.

Udinese        1-1       Sampdoria

Cyril Thereau 5’                        Luis Muriel 64’

Sampdoria keeps the two point gap between the two sides in the league standings.

There was enough open areas on the pitch for the two sides to create attacking play and deliver more goals than they did in this match. Three players were sent off by the 65th-minute, two on the home team and the goalscorer for the away side.

Genoa          2-1         Torino

Luca Rigoni 32’                           Adem Ljajic 89’
Giovanni Simeone 54’

Geno picked up an important home victory over Torino to guarantee safety on the final day of the season.

Lazio             1-3         Inter Milan

Balde Diao Keita 18’(pen)         Marco Andreolli 31’
                                                     Wesley Hoedt 37’(o.g)
                                                     Eder 74’

This result allowed for Inter Milan to ended a streak of four defeats and 8 matches without a victory, while Lazo extended their losing streak to three in competitive matches.

May 22, 2017

Pescara             2-0        Palermo

Robert Muric 15′
Alexandru Mitrita 87′

It might not mean a lot to their season but Pescara got a victory in their final home match of the season.

‘These two relegated teams went against each other for one last time in the top flight. Hopefully, they will both make a quick return to play more Serie A matches against each other.
