FRENCH Ligue 1 after the fifth round – Narrow margins and surprise results.

 

A draw or a win by a goal seems to be the theme for the 5th round.
Monaco dropped points but held on to the top spot because Paris St. Germain were on the losing end of their game with Nice.
Paris St. Germain finished the round in fifth place, while Brest moved up from fifth to second place, and a point from the top of the table, thanks to their 2-1 win over Reims.

Paris St. Germain’s first defeat of the season was at home. They have 8 points from a possible 15 after losing ‘3-2’ to Nice, with Terem Moffi leading the charge in goalscoring for Nice with two goals, one of which was the game-winner.
Kylian Mbappe also scored twice for Paris St. Germain.

Rennes remains unbeaten after coming back from two goals down to earn their fourth straight league draw with a ‘2-2’ draw against Lille.

Joel Asoro scored the game’s only goal in the 37th minute to give Metz the victory and leave Lens winless in their first five games.

Folarin Balogun came off the bench in the 66th minute and scored what appeared to be the winning goal in the 69th minute to give Monaco a ‘2-1’ lead, but Romain Faivre scored in the 8th minute of added time to deny Monaco victory.

Nantes won their first league game of the season, thanks to Moses Simon’s 48th-minute goal, extending Clermont’s winless streak.

Brest came from behind to beat Reims on the road thanks to two second-half goals.

Strasbourg won the first half, and Montpellier won the second. They shared the points in a ‘2-2’ draw.

A dominant Lyon was unable to find the back of the net. Le Havre followed their first league win with an away draw in Lyon, keeping Lyon winless in their first five league games.
