David Ospina sends Colombia into the Copa America Centenario semifinals.

Peru and Colombia both finished in positions in their group where a majority of fans wouldn’t have predicted them to end.

Peru won Group B, while Colombia were runners-up in Group A. Colombia is one of the pre-tournament favorites, but with Peru undefeated in the Copa America Centenario, this was a match that could give us a surprise winner.

Chances were scarce in this match. Maybe it was due to the lack of extra time in the competition and knowing that a great defensive work will give a team a shot at a win.

After a goalless draw, penalty kicks was used to split the two sides.

Colombia came out on top.

James Rodriguez (Colombia) took the first penalty, and Raul Ruidiaz(Peru) followed.David Ospina saved Miguel Trauco’s penalty kick with his leg, as he dove in the wrong direction. It was the third kick for Peru. Sebastian Perez(Colombia) punished Peru by scoring his penalty. All the pressure was on Christian Cueva to score to give Pedro Gallese a chance to redeem Peru. The pressure was too much for him to bear, as he skied his shot.

Colombia is on to the semifinals. The last time they got to the semifinals was in 2004.

Colombia is waiting for Mexico or Chile in the semifinals
