Chile dismantles Mexico. 7-0

Copa America Centenario | QuarterFinals

In a stadium packed with Mexican fans, Eduardo Vargas and Chile ripped apart the Mexican team. The reigning CONCACAF champions and the reigning CONMEBOL champions met in California to decide the 2016 Copa America Centenario quarter-finals. Colombia was waiting on who was going to come out to this match up.Both teams won 2 of their 3 group matches, but Mexico was on a 22 unbeaten run and had tremendous fan support backing them to get a victory over Chile.

Eduardo Vargas finished the match as the leading goal scorer in the competition with 6 goals so far.

Edson Puch and Eduardo Vargas gave Chile a two goal lead before half time. Puch got on a rebound shot from José Fuenzalida and composed himself to place the ball away from the center of the goal. Eduardo Vargas looked to have doubled the lead for Chile in the 37th minute, but he slightly in an offside position. He got his second goal 7 minutes after his offside goal.  That was the first of  4 goals for Vargas.

 

An Alexis Sanchez goal, four minutes after the restart, and a second half hattrick from Eduardo Vargas  buried Mexico.  Edson Puch finished what he had started by scoring the final goal of the match.

 

This won’t be a match that will easily be forgotten for both teams. Chilean fans will tattoo this result in their memory while Mexican fans will be doing everything to remove this night from their memory

 

Chile moves on to the semi-finals and faces Colombia. Mexico exits the competition humiliated.
