The CHAMPIONS LEAGUE – Round of 16 – (First Leg) DAY 2.

The second set of the last 8 played their matches this week.

FEB 21

FRANKFURT 0-2 NAPOLI
A (late) defeat at Anfield against Liverpool in the group stage, a league defeat at San Siro against Inter Milan, and a Coppa Italia knockout through penalty kickoffs are the three occasions Napoli has suffered a defeat in the 2022/23 season. Napoli kept their good form going with a Champions League victory in Frankfurt.

Napoli picked up a 2-0 win against a 10-man Frankfurt.
Victor Osimhen scored the game-opening goal in the 40th minute to get Napoli into halftime with a 1-0 lead.
Frankfurt’s chase for an equalizer became more difficult when Randal Kolo Muani was sent off in the 38th minute.
Napoli doubled their lead in the 65th minute through a well-worked attacking play that was converted to a goal by Giovanni Di Lorenzo.

LIVERPOOL 2-5 REAL MADRID
The last time this fixture was played, Real Madrid won their 14th Champions League title through a 1-0 victory. The end result was the same this time; this time by a bigger margin of victory for Real Madrid.
Real Madrid was two goals down before the quarter of an hour.
Eder Militao’s match-winning goal was sandwiched in a first-half brace from Vinicius Junior and a second-half brace from Karim Benzema, as Real Madrid came from 2 goals down to win 5-2 at Anfield.

FEB 22

INTER MILAN 1-O PORTO
Romelu Lukaku’s goal in the 86th minute handed Inter Milan the advantage for the second leg. Porto was reduced to 10 men in the 78th minute when Otavio picked up a second yellow card.

RB LEIPZIG 1-1 MANCHESTER CITY
Josko Gvardiol’s header got RB Leipzig even on the scoreboard. Gvadiol’s goal canceled the lead Riyad Mahrez had given Manchester City in the 27th minute.

The three Italian clubs were all winners.

The four English clubs were all winless.

AC Milan, Bayern Munich, Dortmund, Benfica, Napoli, Real Madrid, and Inter Milan take a lead into the second leg. Real Madrid has the healthiest lead of the seven clubs that won the first-leg.
The only draw of the first leg was between RB Leipzig and Manchester City.
Real Madrid, Benfica, and Napoli will be home with a healthy lead in the second leg.
