This was the first time Brazil hosted a Copa America tournament and didn’t come out as the winners.

It has been elusive, but Argentina and Lionel Messi have won a ‘major’ international title.

ARGENTINA 1-0 BRAZIL

Rodrigo De Paul found Angel Di Maria open with a pass from his half of the field.
DePaul cut open the Brazilian defense with a pass that got Angel Di Maria one-on-one against Brazil’s goalkeeper Ederson.

Di Maria chipped his shot over Ederson to score the game’s only goal.

Argentina protected their lead thanks to the goalkeeping heroics from Emiliano Martinez.

Argentina won Copa America in Brazil against Brazil. The result marked the first time Brazil has failed to win a Copa America tournament they hosted.

To put it in more context, the last time Brazil suffered a match defeat in a Copa America tournament they hosted was in 1949. It was against Paraguay, and it was their only defeat that tournament.

This was also the first major title Argentina have won with Lionel Messi
Lionel Messi did so by winning the award as the top scorer, top assist provider, and player of the tournament.

COLOMBIA TOOK THE BRONZE MEDAL
Peru took the lead before the end of the opening half to send them to the break with a 1-0 lead.

Since Peru had already gotten a win against Colombia in this tournament, starting the second half with a lead gave Peru a boost that increased the pressure on Colombia.

Luckily for Colombia, It was Luis Diaz’s second half.

COLOMBIA 3-2 PERU

Luis Diaz scored two goals; first goal was to give Colombia a lead, and the other to re-install the lead after Gianluca Lapadula evened the score with just eight minutes of regulation time left to play.

Diaz’s second goal came through a shot outside of the penalty box in the final minute of the additional minute.
