And the Star of the Weekend was …

Posted on

Picking the outright brightest star is never easy, and sometimes blinding.

The shortlist for #SOTW included…

Joshua King (AFC Bournemouth) – for scoring a hat-trick to give Bournemouth a well fought home victory against West Ham United.
Baye Oumar Niasse (Hull City) – for scoring a brace to give Hull City a home win over Swansea City. A win that enhances Hull City’s chance of climbing out of the relegation zone and avoid an early return down to the EFL Championship.
Antoine Griezmann (Atlético Madrid) – his goal against a Granada side that ‘parked the bus’ was important to keep Atletico Madrid’s objective of securing a spot in 2017/18 UEFA Champions League spot alive.
Christopher Nkuku (Paris Saint-Germain) – scoring the winning goal in a match that a deflated PSG couldn’t afford to lose.
Memphis Depay (Lyon) – contributing two beautiful goals to Lyon’s ‘4-0’ away victory over Toulouse.
Ever Banega + Mauro Icardi (Inter Milan) – scoring a hat-trick each against Atalanta in a fixture that allowed Inter Milan to leap over Atalanta in the league standings.
Nikola Kalinic (Fiorentina) – his late goal gave Fiorentina a deserving victory against Cagliari.

But the #SOTW must be given to …

Sergio Ramos (Real Madrid)

For scoring the winning goal against Real Betis, allowing Real Madrid to climb back to the top of the La Liga table with a match in hand. (Oh and this is not the first time he’s had to save Madrid)
