AFCON 2021: We are off to the semifinal. Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Egypt, Senegal.

There is still a chance for the final to be contested by teams that qualified from ‘GROUP A’. Cameroon and Burkina Faso are a win away from the finale.
There is also the chance for Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane to face each other in a final with their national team. Egypt and Senegal are a win away from the finale.



GAMBIA 0-2 CAMEROON
Karl Toko Ekambi scored both goals for Cameroon to take a deserved victory to the semifinal.

{This should go without saying}: Reaching the quarterfinal as a tournament debutant and also as the lowest-ranked nation in the is an overachievement.
Gambia will/should be proud of the tournament they had. It took the host nation to send them out.

BURKINA FASO 1- 0 TUNISIA
Before getting booked a red card for a dangerous challenge,
Dango Ouattara scored the only goal of the match to give Burkina Faso their ticket to the semifinal

EGYPT 2-1 (aet) MOROCCO
The most successful nation in the history of the competition is two wins from another title.

Morocco got the ideal start when a penalty awarded allowed Sofiane Boufal to convert into the match opening goal.
Mohamed Salah scored the equalizing goal for Egypt in the second half and assisted the winning goal in the second half of the extra time.
Egypt leaves Morocco in the quarterfinals.


SENEGAL 3-1 EQUATORIAL GUINEA
Two second-half subs decided the game for Senegal.
Cheikhou Kouyate came off the bench and scored the game-winning just about two minutes later to make it 2-1.
Ismaila Sarr scored in the 79th minute to kill any doubts of Senegal making it to the semifinal.

 



SEMIFINAL
The top two most successful teams in the competition’s history will face off in the semifinal.
For the host nation to get to the final, they will have to get past the most successful nation in the competition’s history. The two are the most successful nations in the competition’s history.

Egypt has 7 titles; with their last title in 2010.
Cameroon has 5 titles; with their last title in 2017. Cameroon’s 2017 title was won against Egypt. (2-1)

Burkina Faso finished 3rd in 2017.
As the silver medalist in the previous tournament (2019), the only progress for Senegal will be in winning this tournament.

All the teams were in the final four of the 2017 tournament except Senegal.
All the teams were not part of the 2019 final four, but Senegal.
