Bayern Munich were favorites before the match, but they had been favorites in a recent Champions League finals and had been unable to come out with a win.
Bayern had failed to win in the 2010 final against Inter Milan, and the 2012 Final in their home stadium against Chelsea. A third UEFA Champions League defeat would have been hard for the team to recover. Losing to one of their biggest domestic rivals would have made the cut deeper.
Bayern Munich was victorious at the end. A late goal for Arjen Robben did it.
