Italian Serie A

Juventus, Napoli and Roma win by a goal, while Inter Milan slip-up in the opening round. – Round 1 – Italian Serie A

The top two sides at the end of last season’s tournament had to come from a goal down to win away from home on the opening day of the 2018/19 Italians Serie A.

On Cristiano Ronaldo’s Serie A debut for Juventus, his side survived a scare to win their opening match of the season through an extra-time goal. Sami Khedira scored in the 3rd-minute to give Juventus the perfect start to their journey to an 8-straight league title, but it was Federico Bernardeschi’s extra-time goal that stripped Chievo Verona of an opening day point against Juventus. Chievo had fought their way back into the game before the halftime break, then took a lead in the second half.

Napoli to pick up three points at Lazio. Ancelotti’s return to Serie A football management is off to a good start.
It was Lorenzo Insigne’s second-half goal that allowed Napoli to leave Rome with the maximum points.
After Juventus managed to secure 3 points in the opening match, their biggest competition in the 2017/18 season could not afford to fall behind this early in the competition.

Edin Dzeko scored a late winner for Roma to start their season with the maximum points. Dzeko scored the only goal of the match in the 89th-minute to keep Torino pointless.

It wasn’t the start expected for Inter Milan as they started their season on the wrong side of a ‘1-0’ sore line. Domenico Berardi scored from the spot to give Sassuolo the only goal of the match to beat Inter Milan.

SPAL is victorious at Bologna. Empoli beats Cagliari with a goal in each half. Newly-promoted Parma blew a 2-goal second-half lead to settle for a point at home against Udinese.

After a ‘1-0’ first half, Frosinone was welcomed to Serie A with a ‘4-0’ hammering by Atalanta in the final match of the round.
