The traditional favorites start their season with a win, while Atletico Madrid falls short. – Round 1 – 2018/19 Spanish La Liga

 As expected by most fans, the ‘top four’ teams in the final standings of last season’s table avoided defeat in their opening match of the 2018/19 season. – FC Barcelona, Real Madrid, and Sevilla kicked off their season with a win, while Atletico Madrid and Valencia had to settle for a draw.

Girona and newly-promoted Real Valladolid opened the 2018/19 Spanish La Liga season with a goalless draw. As expected, Girona dominated the majority of the match but Valladolid was able to escape their first match with a point.

Jose Luis Morales scored a second-half brace for Levante to beat a Real Betis side that is coming into the season with ambitions for finishing the season in the top quarter of the final league standings. Levante picked up the first 3 points of the season after a ‘3-0’ away victory against Real Betis.

An incredible Lionel Messi captained FC Barcelona to a ‘3-0’ home victory against Deportivo Alaves to kickstart their title defense season with a full three points in front of their home supporters.

Despite being first to get on the scoreboard, Villarreal loses their season opener at home to Real Sociedad.

Alex Gallar’s first-half brace did the job for newly-promoted Huesca to seal an away victory against Eibar in their opening match of the season. Andre Silva marked his debut for Sevilla with a hat-trick and helped his side to a ‘4-1’ away victory against promoted Rayo Vallecano. Dani Carvajal and Gareth Bale scored for Real Madrid to pick up all three points through a ‘2-0’ home victory against Getafe.

Iker Muniain scored in the dying minutes of the match to secure maximum points for Athletic Club in a ‘2-1’ victory over Leganes, while Valencia avoided defeat at home to Atletico Madrid when Rodrigo scored a second-half equalizing goal to cancel Angel Correa’s first-half goal.
