3 nation’s day were eliminated on ‘Day 7’ of the 2018 World Cup

On any other day, the fixtures of Day 7 of the 2018 World Cup would have given us at least one ‘blow-out’ scoreline.
We ended up with a day filled with ‘1-0’ wins and no upsets. Three teams (Morocco, Egypt, Saudi Arabia) got eliminated from the 2018 FIFA World Cup and two (Russia, Uruguay) advanced to the next round.


Group B – Portugal vs Morocco
Date – June 20, 2018
Venue – Luzhniki
Goal scorers – (Portugal) Cristiano Ronaldo 4’

Cristiano Ronaldo scored his 4th goal of the 2018 FIFA World Cup (the most), which was also his 85th goal for Portugal, allowing him to take over Ferenc Puskas position as the top European goalscorer in history.
Portugal wins their first match of the 2014 FIFA World Cup and eliminated Morocco in that process.

Group B – Iran vs Spain
Date – June 20, 2018
Venue – Kazan Arena
Goal scorers – (Spain) Diego Costa 54’


Iran made it difficult, but Diego Costa scored his third goal in the 2018 World Cup to hand Spain their first win in the 2018 World Cup.



Group A – Uruguay vs Saudi Arabia
Date – June 20, 2018
Venue – Rostov-on-Don
Goal Scorers – (Uruguay) Luis Suárez 23’


On his 100th cap for Uruguay, Luis Suarez scored the only goal of the match to hand his side a consecutive ‘1-0’ win at the 2018 FIFA World Cup. The victory eliminated Saudi Arabia and Egypt from the tournament while sending Uruguay and Russia through to the ‘Round of 16’
