Liverpool wins their 8th FA Cup title to match Chelsea’s record in the competition.
Chelsea suffered their third FA Cup final defeat in a row as Liverpool reach the halfway mark to a quadruple.

Before Mason mount missed his penalty kick in the ‘sudden death’ round for Konstantinos Tsimikas to win the tie for Liverpool, Sadio Mane had a chance to convert Liverpool’s fifth penalty kick into the game-winning goal after Cesar Azpilicueta missed Chelsea’s second kick.

This was the fourth time Chelsea and Liverpool have faced each other in the 2021/22 season. All four matches ended in a draw; with the penalties needed to decide the cup matches.

Just like in the EFL Cup final (February 27.), a penalty kick-off was needed to decide the result after a goalless 120+ minutes.
And just like in the EFL Cup final, Liverpool came out on top.

Anything could’ve happened in a one-off match, but Liverpool was to be considered the favorite in this final by the league standings and the season in general. Liverpool’s ambitions of winning an unprecedented quadruple were hanging on a victory from this final.
