We knew there was going to be a new name to be engraved on the cup because Freiburg and RB Leipzig were both chasing their first major/top-flight title in their history.

A numerically disadvantaged RB Leipzig team fought from a goal down to get a ‘1-1’ draw that eventually forced a penalty kickoff after extra time.

Maxi Eggestein scored in the 19th minute to give Freiburg a first-half lead that was taken into the halftime break.

Marcel Halstenberg was sent off on a red card in the 57th minute while RB Leipzig was chasing a goal to even the score.

Christopher Nukunku scored about 20 minutes later for RB Leipzig to get even.

Both teams had their chances to win (even in extra time).
