Leon Goretzka scored two first-half goals for Bayern Munich reopened the season with a ‘3-1’ away victory at Hoffenheim

Yann Sommer played a big role for Borussia Monchengladbach to get the result at Leverkusen and keep themselves up the table with the Bayern and Dortmund.

Late goals from Stuttgart allowed them to lose by a bearable margin against Mainz.

Frankfurt began 2019 with a victory by beating Freiburg 3-1. And with Dortmund’s victory against RB Leipzig, Frankfurt is a point away from the ‘top four’

Augsburg remained out of the dropzone despite defeat to Fortuna Dusseldorf (because of Stuttgart’s failure to win)

It was a 7th winless league match for relegation zoned Hannover 96 after a home defeat to Werder Bremen.

Dortmund passed another test by beating a ‘top four’ side RB Leipzig to keep their 6-point lead at the top of the Bundesliga standings.

Ondrej Duda‘s goals in the second-half restored Hertha Berlin’s lead and gave his side an away victory against bottom-table Nurnberg.

Schalke opened the second round of the season with a victory and denied Wolfsburg the opportunity to move level on points with RB Leipzig. Daniel Caligiuri provided both goals for Schalke; not bad work from a defender.
