2017/18 UEFA Champions League – Round Two : Day Two – PSG makes a big statement.

No points were shared on Day Two of the second round of the Champions League. Group A brought had a lot of goals that were not shared evenly. Basel at home defeated Benfica by 5 goals without a reply, while Manchester United took doubled their wins in the competition by beating CSKA Moscow to secure an away victory. With these results, Benfica remains the only side in the to have no points after two games.

In Group B, Paris Saint-Germain took control of the group after trashing Bayern Munich ‘3-0’. Dani Alves opened the scoring early in the match for PSG to control the game with their fast counter attacks. The three goals wiped out Bayern Munich goal difference and saw Paris Saint-Germain go into the third group match (against a winless Anderlecht) with 8 goals scored and none conceded.  Also in Group B, Celtic picked up three points with three goals at Belgium.

Early kick off in Group C allowed Roma to be the first team of the day to get a win after getting the majority of the three goals scored in the first half against Qarabag. However, the biggest story in the Group was Chelsea giving Atletico Madrid their first defeat in their new home stadium. Chelsea had to come from behind to beat Atletico Madrid and firmly take pole position.

It was a home victory for Juventus over Olympiakos in Group D, as expected, while Barcelona did just enough to double their wins in the competition at Lisbon.
