With the recent tragedy, FC Barcelona had to play for the City of Barcelona in the first round of the La Liga Season.

Both Real Madrid and Barcelona starting their season with three points as the Spanish La Liga returned for the 2017/18 season.

Deportivo Alaves’ Manu Garcia missed the opportunity to open the scoring for the season when he failed to convert a penalty kick for his side in the 17th minute against Leganes. The missed came back to haunt Alaves when Gabriel scored for Leganes seven minutes later to open the scoring for the season.

Unlike the other league favorites, Atletico Madrid narrowly escaped an opening day defeat to newly-promoted Girona. Being a man down didn’t stop Atletico Madrid from getting a late goal to leave with a point away from the fixture. Antoine Griezmann was sent off in the 67th minute after getting booked for simulation in the penalty box and reacting poorly to the referee’s call.

Jose Maria Gimenez enjoyed his game-saving goal for Atletico Madrid against newly-promoted Girona.

Already Real Madrid has done enough to be on top of the league standings. Is this another league title winning year for Real Madrid? Will Barcelona find the squad to challenge? Can we expect a surprise from Atletico and Sevilla in the title race?
