Excitement returned to Germany when the 2017/18 German Bundesliga came to town. Defending champions Bayern Munich opened the season on a rainy evening with Bayer Leverkusen at the Allianz Arena. Bayern started their title defense season with a flattering 3-1 victory.

It was a deflating start for RB Leipzig. A ‘2-0’ away defeat to Schalke 04 has Leipzig in the relegation playoff spot after round one. For a team that finished second to Bayern at the end of the 2016/17 Bundesliga season, a lot more was expected from RB Leipzig in this opening fixture.
