2017/18 French Ligue 1 – Round 9 : PSG opens the gap on AS Monaco

Posted on

Paris Saint-Germain avoided an upset at Dijon when Thomas Meunier scored a late winner to give PSG full points after giving up the lead 3 minutes before the end of regulation time. The importance of this victory for PSG is that it allowed the team to take full advantage of Monaco’s defeat to Lyon. A six-point gap has been open between PSG and defending champions Monaco.

Nabil Fekir (Lyon) was the star of the match when his late strike from a freekick gave his side a victory over Monaco. Fekir contributed two goals to help his side grab this memorable victory. Radamel Falcao might have been the missing piece for Monaco. Despite not being involved in the actions of this weekend, Radamel Falcao remains top goalscorer in the league with no reduction in the gap between him and the second player on the list, Edinson Cavani (PSG).

A second-half late run allowed Saint-Etienne to come from a goal down in the first half and take the victory over Metz. Marseille almost traded a victory for a defeat away to Strasbourg. A late goal rescued a point for Marseille in a 6-goal thrilling match.

With Paris Saint-Germain’s form and their quality, it is getting difficult to look past them as champions by the end of the season.
