2017/18 English Premier League – Round 9 – And Manchester City is running away with the title.

Posted on

Manchester City remains on top of the English Premier League table and as the only team in the league that is yet to suffer a defeat after Manchester United falls at Huddersfield Town to allow city rival Manchester City to open a 5-point gap between themselves and the rest of the league.

We expected a Manchester City backed by home support was too much Burnley to overcome. Sergio Aguero returned to action by adding a goal to his tally when he opened the scoring in the match that finished with Man City as ‘3-0’ winners. Aguero moves up to join Manchester United’s Romelu Lukaku at the top end of the goalscoring list, a goal behind Tottenham’s Harry Kane.

Two first-half goals within a 5-minute space were enough to newly-promoted Huddersfield Town deliver Manchester United their first league defeat of the season.

It could have been a consecutive victory over dominant London sides for Watford if they could have held onto their lead, but a Michy Batshuayi late goal gave Chelsea the maximum points against Watford. Chelsea had to come from a goal down in the second-half to flip a potential home defeat into a victory.

Arsenal placed more pressure on Everton when they humiliated them in front of their home fans at the Goodison Park. It was a ‘5-2’ victory for an Arsenal side that needed to bounce back from a shocking league defeat to Watford. Everton is residing in the relegation zone.

Arsenal wasn’t the only London club to enjoy a three-goal victory, Tottenham was clinical at home and finished off Liverpool by four goals to one. Harry Kane scored two goals to climb to the top of the goalscoring list after 9 rounds of the 2017/18 English Premier League.
