The 2017/18 La Liga season ended with FC Barcelona winning the title 14-points clear. Lionel Messi topped the goalscoring list with 34 goals; winning the ‘Pichichi’ for the 5th time and the ‘European Golden Shoe’ for a record 5th time.
Real Madrid blew a 2 goal lead to finish their season on a draw. A ‘2-2’ draw against Villarreal locked Real Madrid in third-place and eliminated the pressure on Atletico Madrid to win their final match of the season in order to secure second place.
Fernando Torres captained and scored a brace in his final match for Atletico Madrid.
